“Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.”

— Fred Rogers

Learning through wonder – sparking curiosity, investigation and discovery

Evergreen Nature School is an outdoor education program situated in the scenic surroundings of Lexington, KY. Our teaching philosophy is rooted in the Scandinavian Forest School model and influenced by alternative education methods such as Waldorf, Reggio Emilia, and Montessori. Our program is entirely outdoor-based, with a child-led learning approach that allows children to explore and discover the natural world around them while nurturing their inherent sense of wonder and inquiry. As a nomadic-style school, we frequently rotate among different parks, creeks, and trails in Lexington to take advantage of each location's unique flora, fauna, structures, materials, and challenges. This approach ensures that children are exposed to diverse environments, encouraging them to adapt, problem-solve, and build resilience.
