FAQ

  • A Nature School is an educational approach that aims to help children develop confidence, self-esteem, and independence through regular outdoor experiences in natural settings such as forests, woodlands, and meadows. The concept originated in Scandinavia and has gained popularity in other parts of the world, including the United Kingdom and the United States.

At a Nature School, children engage in child-led, hands-on learning experiences that encourage exploration, discovery, and creativity. Activities may include building forts, making mud pies, identifying plants and animals, and using tools such as saws and knives (under careful supervision). The focus is on building a relationship with the natural world and developing a deep understanding of ecological principles, while also nurturing social and emotional growth.

  • To attend our program, children must have completed potty training or be in the process of doing so. We can provide support and continue the training process if it has already started at home. Please note that there is an additional monthly fee of $65 for the cost of pull-ups, if needed.

  • Nature school: You can withdraw at any time. Withdrawal from the program requires 30 days advance written notice at which time the deposit will be used as last month’s tuition.

Seasonal Camp: Payments are non refundable to ensure we have the staff available to meet student ratio, if you need to modify dates due to inability to attend summer camp a credit can be arranged.

  • We explore rain or shine! Like the saying goes “There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing!” We will only cancel if the wind advisory is not within recommended conditions, due to a lightning storm or in the event the temperature drops too low. On days when the weather may seem unfavorable to most, we typically have the most fun and are presented with learning opportunities that we would otherwise miss out on while staying indoors.

In the event of inclement weather such as a lightning storm or a tornado watch, we will cancel activities with as much advance notice as possible. We follow state weather watch guidelines to ensure the safety of the children.

  • Deposit ($50) is non-refundable

Cancellations made 30+ days before camp start: Families can receive a full refund of any fees paid beyond the $50 deposit.

Cancellations made within 30 days of camp start: No refunds, but the full amount (minus the deposit) can be applied as a credit toward another Evergreen program or a future camp session.

    Why This Policy?

    • Our camp leaders and staff are scheduled and paid in advance based on expected enrollment.

    • Each registered child reserves a spot that another camper could have taken, making last-minute cancellations difficult to fill.

    • This policy helps us ensure fair compensation for our educators and the sustainability of our program while also allowing flexibility for families.

    Weather Cancellations

Evergreen is a fully outdoor, nomadic program, and we embrace a range of weather conditions as part of the experience. Camp will run in most weather, including light rain and cold temperatures. However, in cases of extreme or unsafe weather (such as severe storms, high winds, lightning, or hazardous air quality), we will assess conditions and may:

    1. Adjust the schedule or location to maximize safety and comfort.

    2. Cancel camp for the day if conditions are deemed unsafe and there is no alternative location available.

If Evergreen must cancel camp for a full day due to extreme weather, families will receive a camp credit for the missed day, which can be applied to a future Evergreen program. We do not offer refunds for weather-related cancellations, as our staff and resources are committed in advance.

    Cancellation by Evergreen

If Evergreen cancels a full camp session for any reason (outside of weather-related single-day cancellations), families will receive a full refund, including their deposit, or may choose to apply the payment as a credit toward a future session.

  • Who leads the camps?
Evergreen camps are led by experienced educators and outdoor guides who support children in play-based, outdoor learning environments. Staff are carefully selected and supported by Evergreen leadership.

We keep small groups for safety and connection.
    Ages 3–5: ~7:1
    Ages 6–12: ~9:1

Are parents allowed to stay during camp?

No. Parents are not permitted to attend or remain during camp sessions. This helps children settle into the group, build independence, and allows educators to maintain a safe and consistent environment.

    What are the camp hours?
    Monday–Thursday, 9:00 AM–2:00 PM
An optional Friday add-on may be available for select weeks.

What if the weather is bad?
Camp runs rain or shine. In cases of extreme or unsafe weather, we may adjust the day or cancel for safety. Families are notified as early as possible.

    What should my child bring?
Lunch, snack, water bottle, extra clothes, sturdy shoes, weather-appropriate layers, and sun protection. Expect outdoor play in all conditions.

Will staff help with sunscreen and bug spray?

Yes. Teachers assist with the reapplication of sunscreen and insect repellent. Families must provide clearly labeled products for their child. We ask that all kids come to camp with sunscreen and bug repellant applied and we will reapply as needed.

    Do you provide food?
No. Families pack all food. We do not require peanut-free lunches.

Does my child need to be potty trained?
Yes. All campers must be fully potty trained.
