Learning outdoors through exploration, investigation and discovery
Why Evergreen Nature School?
Learning and personal growth are not limited to the classroom, but also involve experiencing and interacting with the natural world around us. However, in today's society, many children are not exposed to outdoor activities like climbing trees or playing with natural elements, which can lead to emotional and physical issues.
In an effort to save the childhood we once knew where time spent outside was essential, Evergreen Nature School is here to bring nature back to the child by creating the space and time for children to go on nature walks, make mud pies, build forts and learn through exploration at the rhythm of nature in the beautiful outdoors of Lexington, KY.
“Children cannot bounce off the walls if we take away the walls.”
– Erin Kenny
What is Nature Deficit Disorder?
according to author Richard Lauv
“Nature-deficit disorder” is not a medical diagnosis, but a useful term—a metaphor—to describe what many of us believe are the human costs of alienation from nature: diminished use of the senses, attention difficulties, higher rates of physical and emotional illnesses, a rising rate of myopia, child and adult obesity, Vitamin D deficiency, and other maladies.
